Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC)

Inspiring learning and adventure beyond the school gates.

Our Wellington Playground

At Roseneath School, we plan trips throughout the year to add to, inspire, and enhance our classroom learning. We are incredibly lucky to be located so close to the city centre and the town belt, allowing us to take full advantage of everything Wellington has to offer our students.

Whether it is a local day trip or a multi-night camp, our EOTC activities are carefully planned to ensure equitable access , and we strictly follow Ministry of Education safety and supervision guidelines so every adventure is a safe one.

A Progression of Adventure

As our ākonga grow, so do their adventures. We structure our EOTC programmes to provide age-appropriate challenges that build independence, teamwork, and resilience.

Junior School
Years 1–4

Our junior students begin their EOTC journey by exploring our incredible local backyard. In Term 4, they alternate their years between two major Wellington adventures:

Matairangi / Mt Victoria: Adventure walks exploring the town belt.

Matiu / Somes Island: Taking the ferry across the harbour for a day of discovery.

Middle School
Years 5-6

Our middle school students take their next big step by beginning overnight adventures. They build independence and teamwork by alternating their years between:

Camp Kaitoke: A 3-day, 2-night camp filled with outdoor challenges.

EOTC Day Trips: A targeted series of exciting, action-packed day trips around the wider Wellington region.

Senior School
Years 7-8

Our seniors step up as school leaders to take on our biggest physical challenges. They celebrate their final primary school years by alternating between:

Forest Lakes Camp: A 5-day, 4-night camp pushing their comfort zones.

City Action Term: Adrenalin Forest high-ropes, water-based activities, and extensive Wellington city walks.

Connecting Adventure to the Classroom

Our EOTC adventures are not just about having fun in the outdoors, they are deeply woven into our daily curriculum.

Many of our local trips link directly to our learning around Aotearoa's histories and pūrākau (Māori stories). For example, our junior visits to Government House tie perfectly into the history of the saluting battery located right here at our kura!
