Championing Year 7 & 8 Learners

The Senior School Advantage

At Roseneath School, we proudly function as a full Year 1 to Year 8 primary school. Students who spend their full eight years at our kura benefit immensely from being the true seniors of the school.

Rather than being small fish in a massive new pond, our Year 7 and 8 students are empowered to step up as confident, capable role models for our younger tamariki. We provide our senior students with a wealth of unique opportunities to develop their leadership skills, explore new technologies, and take ownership of their learning environment.

Stepping Up as Leaders

We trust our seniors to lead by example. Our Year 7 and 8 students can challenge themselves through:

Leadership Licence Trips

Students learn to plan their own learning trips in small groups. They start with an adult joining them and progress to independent, student-led excursions out in the community.

Kapa Haka Leadership

Our senior Kapa Haka leaders have the opportunity to lead the school, speak in te reo as Kaikōrero, learn special waiata and haka, and help our younger students master their skills.

Rōpū (House) Leadership

From Year 6 onwards, students can run to be a Rōpū Leader. They are responsible for organising and motivating their mixed-age house groups to play games and complete activities together.

Specialist Programmes & Opportunities

Our senior students enjoy access to a range of specialist programmes and hands-on responsibilities:

Technicraft: Our Year 7 and 8 students take a weekly trip to a dedicated Technology Centre to master practical skills in food technology, soft materials, electronics and design, hard materials, and digital technology.

Gamelan Orchestra: Students have the incredible opportunity to create stories and music using the beautiful, traditional Gamelan instruments housed in 'The Long Hall'.

The Mural Group: Creative seniors work closely with Miss T to design, plan, and paint vibrant murals around the school grounds.

The Gardening Group: Green-thumbed students work to enhance and beautify our environment by maintaining the school compost bins and vegetable gardens.

Student Librarians: From Year 6, students are trained to understand and independently facilitate our library processes.
