Sports & Active Lifestyles

Big opportunities, flexible teams, and a lifelong love of moving.

Our Approach to School Sport

At Roseneath School, we believe that staying active and participating in sports is a vital part of our ākonga’s wellbeing.

Parents often wonder if a smaller kura means fewer sporting opportunities. In reality, it means the exact opposite! Our size means every child who wants to participate gets to play. We focus strongly on inclusion, building fundamental skills, and ensuring our tamariki develop a positive, lifelong relationship with physical activity.

After-School Teams & Competitions

We actively facilitate school teams based on student interest each term. Because our roll is dynamic, our approach to teams is beautifully flexible.

How our teams work: If we have a huge group of keen basketballers one year, we will field multiple Roseneath teams! If we are a few players short for a specific age bracket, we frequently team up with neighbouring schools so that no one ever misses out on playing.

We regularly enter teams in:

Basketball

At the Ākau Tangi Sports Centre.

FLOOR BALL

At the Ākau Tangi Sports Centre.

Netball

Through the Motu Kairangi competition.

Badminton

At the Ākau Tangi Sports Centre.

Whole School & Inter-School Events

Throughout the year, our entire kura gets involved in physical education programmes designed to build foundational skills and school spirit.

For the Seniors (Years 5–8)

Our older students regularly represent Roseneath at wider regional inter-school tournaments, competing in events like futsal, miniball, kiwi cricket, cross-country, and athletics.

Connecting with Local Clubs

While we love fielding school teams, we also highly encourage our whānau to join local weekend sports clubs. Our community is incredibly well-connected to local organisations for football (with many of our students playing for Miramar Rangers), rugby, hockey, cricket, and tennis. If your child is looking to try a new sport, our parent community is a fantastic resource for club recommendations and carpooling!

Movin' March

Healthy habits start at the school gate. Every year, we proudly take part in Movin' March, a fantastic initiative run by the Greater Wellington Regional Council. Throughout the month, we actively encourage our students to walk, scooter, bike, or wheel to school. It is a brilliant way to build fitness, gain independence, and help reduce congestion around our local streets.
